Island of Arran, with it's mild climate, is situated 14 miles
from the south west coast of Scotland lying between the Ayrshire
coast and the Mull of Kintyre.
The
attractive village of Whiting Bay lies six miles south of Brodick
pier. There are numerous village shops selling local produce,
groceries, gifts and crafts. A
number of establishments on the island have eating out facilities
and Whiting Bay boasts many of the finest restaurants. The village
pubs offer bar snacks and live music.
There
is something for everyone to do on the island; safe beaches, sailing,
golf, bowling, tennis, cycling and pony trekking. There are also
a number of indoor pursuits including a swimming pool and leisure
centre. There
are many delightful walks on the island and the birds, wildlife,
flowers and fauna are some of the main attractions.
A
modern car and passenger ferry links Ardrossan on the mainland
with Brodick on Arran. The journey time is 55 minutes. Ardrossan
is 30 miles south west of Glasgow and approximately 15 miles from
Prestwick. The train station is situated on Ardrossan Pier. A
number of airlines offer a fast and frequent service to either
Prestwick or Glasgow Airports. Both airports have excellent road
and rail links to Ardrossan.
During
the summer months you can also sail from Cloanaig on the Kintyre
Peninsula to Lochranza in the north of Arran. (35 minutes) Visitors
to the island can use this route to explore the Western Highlands
& Islands.
The
island is 20 miles long and 12 miles wide and offers some of the
most spectacular and beautiful scenery in Scotland.
